A Trail of Tears for the Cherokee
Religion and school book learning
Civilization is for every man
Children running and villages burning
There’s a reason behind every plan
Big ships brought our forefathers
Big ships took them across the sea
A new home for their sons and daughters
A trail of Tears for the Cherokee
Cherokee had sons and daughters
Cherokee had a way of life
Cherokee had mothers and fathers
Tell me now how they had no rights
Big churches with tall white steeples
Christianity is a famous brand
Love your neighbor and all God’s people
Cherokee tried to understand
Hypocrites come in varied sizes
But the truth can’t be denied
There’s no room for compromises
When you’re talking about genocide
Cherokee had sons and daughters
Cherokee had a way of life
Cherokee had mothers and fathers
Tell me now how they had no rights
There’s monuments to the Revolution
Bronze statues standing in the squares
Wooden plaques for our Constitution
But who remembers the Trail of Tears?
I am not asking for restitution
Those guilty are in Gods hands
Revenge is a bad solution
Tell the truth now that’s a plan
Cherokee had sons and daughters
Cherokee had a way of life
Cherokee had mothers and fathers
Tell me now how they had no rights
